Last April, the UP Department of Philosophy brought you the UPD-Cambridge Lecture Series. We are back and bigger than ever before!

Renowned philosophers from the ๐”๐ง๐ข๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐Ž๐ฑ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ๐ will be sharing their expertise on novel and exciting topics.
On Saturday, November 9, ๐๐ซ๐จ๐Ÿ. ๐‰๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ข๐š ๐–๐ž๐œ๐ค๐ž๐ง๐, ๐๐ก๐ƒ will be speaking on “๐‚๐š๐ง ๐€๐ˆ-๐ƒ๐ซ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž๐ง ๐Œ๐š๐œ๐ก๐ข๐ง๐ž๐ฌ ๐“๐ก๐ข๐ง๐ค ๐š๐ง๐ ๐…๐ž๐ž๐ฅ?”, a lecture on the latest research in metaphysics and the philosophy of mind.
On Monday, November 18, ๐๐ซ๐จ๐Ÿ. ๐’๐ญ๐ž๐ฉ๐ก๐ž๐ง ๐‹๐š๐ฐ, ๐ƒ๐๐ก๐ข๐ฅ (๐Ž๐ฑ๐จ๐ง.) will be speaking on “๐“๐ก๐ž ๐„๐ฏ๐ข๐ฅ ๐†๐จ๐ ๐‚๐ก๐š๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ž๐ง๐ ๐ž”, a lecture on a famous thought experiment in the philosophy of religion.
On Saturday, November 23, ๐๐ซ๐จ๐Ÿ. ๐ƒ๐จ๐ฎ๐  ๐๐š๐ฆ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ๐, ๐๐ก๐ƒ will be speaking on “๐‘๐š๐ฐ๐ฅ๐ฌ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐๐จ๐ณ๐ข๐œ๐ค ๐จ๐ง ๐‰๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐œ๐ž ๐š๐ง๐ ๐“๐š๐ฑ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง”, a classic debate in political and moral philosophy that continues to be relevant in our current social environment.
Each lecture will be followed by a Q&A session which will give attendees an opportunity to share their own insights and raise their own questions about the lectures. The event is ๐จ๐ฉ๐ž๐ง ๐ญ๐จ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ฉ๐ฎ๐›๐ฅ๐ข๐œ, but UP Diliman philosophy graduate and undergraduate students will receive prioritized slots should the registration cap be exceeded. Remembering a mentor, a friend, and a colleague: Prof. Earl Stanley Fronda, PhD. (1964-2024)

It is with sorrow that the Department of Philosophy announces the death of our highly esteemed, Prof. Earl Stanley Fronda, Ph.D.
Sir Earl passed away last Sunday, 8 September 2024.
The wake is currently being held at St. Peter Memorial Chapel, Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City before flying his remains to Zamboanga on Friday.
Sir Earl was a mentor, a colleague, and a friend; a respected professor and scholar of Philosophy who we will deeply miss and remember in loving memory.

UPD Philosophy’s courtesy visit to the Philippine Embassy in Italy

The contingent of UP Department of Philosophy scholars who are attending the XXV World Congress of Philosophy paid a courtesy visit to the Philippine Embassy in Italy on August 6, 2024.
Ambassador Nathaniel G. Imperial graciously welcomed UP System Officials Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs Teresa Payongayong, Assistant Vice President for Public Affairs Jeanette Yasol-Naval, OAR Dir. KC Abalos-Orendain, UP Diliman OFA Dir. Arlyn Macapinlac, Department of Philosophy Chair Liza Ocampo, and Division Head for UPLB Philosophy Division, Ms. Marga Taganas.
Ms. Isabel Diwata S. Abueva, Mr. John Alonzo, Mr. Gavin Chuacuco, Ms. Andrea Lorraine C. Duran and Mr. Patrick Villegas who are instructors and graduate students of Philosophy rounded off the visit.
The department thanks Ms. Diwa Abueva for arranging the visit.

UPD Department of Philosophy at the XXV World Congress of Philosophy in Sapienza Universita di Roma (01-08 August 2024)

The Department of Philosophy, UP Diliman sends a contingent of scholars at the XXV World Congress of Philosophy. Currently being held in Sapienza Universita di Roma (August 1-8, 2024), the 8-day conference gathers philosophy students, faculty members, and researchers from all over the world with over 3,000 participants.
The Department of Philosophy is led by its Chair Dr. Liza Ocampo and joined by Dr. KC Abalos-Orendain, Mr. John Alonzo, Mr. Gavin Chuacuco, Assistant Professor Henry Fernando, Assistant Professor Arlyn Pinpin-Macapinlac, Dr. Teresa Payongayong, Mr. Patrick Villegas, and Dr. Jeanette Yasol-Naval.
Graduate students, Ms. Isabel Diwata S. Abueva and Ms. Andrea Lorraine C. Duran also joined.
Each will present a paper on current issues in the discipline of Philosophy.

Prof. Leonardo De Castro, PhD. of the UP Department of Philosophy passed on peacefully at home yesterday, Sunday, May 12, 2024, surrounded by his family.
The wake will be at the Chapel of Fortuna in Aeternitas, beside St Peter Parish along Commonwealth Ave., Quezon City, from 4PM to 10PM on Monday (May 13) and 10AM to 10PM on Tuesday and Wednesday (May 14 and 15). A mass will also be held daily at 7PM.
Following the mass on Wednesday (May 15), the Department will hold a necrology service at Aeternitas.
